This memorial website was created to remember our dearest Opal Lee Tippett who was born in Bells, TN on May 8, 1920 and passed away on March 17, 2007. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.
Opal Tippett was the best Mother/Grandmother anyone could ever ask for. I can remember spending many nights with her. She would rub my back to put me to sleep and wake me up with the smell of her homeade biscuits. If you know me, I am not one to wake up easily at all, but the smell of he food and I would be rolling myself out of bed. She was the best cook in the world. I guess that just goes to say "There's no cooking like Grandmaws cooking!". Oh and Christmas at Grandmaw's house was the place to be. The Christmas dispaly was enought o put a smile on your face. I would help her with the tree, setting up the villages, and all of the other decorations. Presents would wrap all the way around the tree and go from one side of the living room to the other. That's a lot of presents. We barely had a place to sit, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Then there was Christmas Supper. Ofcourse there was your Turkey and Dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, etc... but there was also like three other meats, and 9 other vegetables/sides, not to mention homeade cornbread and rolls. The best was dessert.... cakes, pies, but mostly her homeade banana pudding. Wow.

Grandmaw started getting really sick a few years back. She started to forget things, peoples names, and where she put stuff. She had Alzheimers Disease and it was getting worse and worse. We could see a drastic difference in her around 2004. In 2005 she was put in Forest Cove nursing home of Jackson, TN. The people at that nursing home were not giving her her medicine and were not treating her right. She actually started taking a major turn for the worse while she was in there. Finally the family got together and decided that something had to change. She was moved to a great nursing home in Humboldt, TN. From that point her health got much better and she was smiling again. Until one day, my cousin came down from Illinois and called saying that when she went to visit Grandmaw, she found out that she had been put in the hospital. Everyone rushed there because we were told is was very important for us to be there. 18 people eventually filled the room. When I first enetered the room and saw her, it scared me so much that I had to leave the room. Her heartbeat was 12 bpms and and she was so pale. We were there a whole night, because the doctor said he wouldn't advise anyone to leave. The second day we were informed that her four main organs were either shut-down or mostly shut-down. She was fighting though, because everyone wasn't there yet. On the third day everyone finally made it in and it wasn't long after that she left us.

My Grandmother will never be forgotten. I think about her everyday and I always will. It doesn't seem like it has been that long ago. It still seems like yesterday to me. She was the most amazing person. I hear certain songs like "Dancing With The Angels" or "Elsworth" and it's so hard not to cry. I wanted to make this site in honor of my Grandmaw, and to let people know how amazing she was.

                                         I Love You Grandmaw.
